Chi Tae Kwon Do:with expansion of site, Miami Shores center appeals to people of all ages

By Jack Riggs

It’s been particularly busy around Miami Shores’ always-bustling Chi Tae Kwon Do.

“We’ve been doing some renovation with which we are almost done,” said Chi Tae Kwon Do owner Aaron Fruitstone. “We’ve enlarged the training area to about 1100 square feet, all fully matted. We also now have a strength training area with machines and free weights.”

Chi Tae Kwon Do has been in the South Florida community for many years. Over that time, expert instructors and training and a focus on martial arts opportunities for children and adults have propelled the business to a leading role in the field and in the local community. Participating youngsters must be academically solid to participate, with the result being pleased parents – many of whom are also students. The discipline and commitment are routinely lauded for benefiting children and teens.

Students today benefit from program expansion and success in competition.

“Our Brazilian Ju-Jitsu has matured – we have a solid Adult Brazilian Ju-Jitsu program,” Fruitstone said. “In addition to the martial arts aspect, it is great fitness training. It’s hard to find a better overall workout. We have also had a very good success rate in tournaments.”

Fruitstone said one group is headed to a tournament in Orlando. Eight students from the school are headed to the World Cup of Tae Kwon Do in October as well.

“We’ve also been successful with our mixed martial arts program, which is geared toward people who want to compete in mixed martial arts or who want to improve their [overall] skills,” Fruitstone said.

Students of all stripes have found Chi. Students range from school age to adults in their 40s – 50s.

“You don’t have to be in shape – this will get you into shape,” Fruitstone says. “Its different strokes for different folks – some people can handle more. People come in sometimes with zero conditioning and find themselves later in better shape.”

Chi Tae Kwon Do is located at 9699 NE Second Avenue in Miami Shores. For more information, visit www.chimartialarts.com or call (305) 759-6565.
