Fitness camp for committed women,

Modified “boot camp” begins Sept. 10

By Jack Riggs

A very special, intense weight loss and fitness camp is set to begin on the sands of Miami Beach in September. The Re-Juven8 Women’s Boot Camp will take place over a series of weeks on the beach at 10th and Ocean Drive.

“This is for people who want something of a drastic approach,” said Re-Juven8 Women’s Boot Camp trainer Antonio Almeida. “You have to get up at 5 AM to be at 6 AM classes. It’s really for executive women who work but who can make a commitment to a month. With that commitment, people will then do everything necessary to make sure [the program] works – diet and nutrition, etc. It’s a real boot camp with a lot attached to it. It is intense, but people will be in the best shape of their lives.”

Almeida said the camp is structured on a modified boot camp and that even obese people will leave in better shape than they might ever have been.

Almeida has the pedigree to be leading such a class. The Portuguese born renaissance man’s first experience with the disciplines connecting mind and bodied followed his moving to the United States in the early 1960s. Antonio began a journey that would propel him to acquire a level fourth degree black belt in the martial science of Aikido. Antonio’s understanding of Aikido was not just limited to the practice of the martial science itself, but its higher spiritual purpose as a lifestyle that would play a large role in his future.

The lure of California drew Almeida there, where he pursued the growing sport of bodybuilding. Returning to New England, Antonio won titles such as Mr. New England, Mr. North America and placed third in the Mr. Universe contest. For the next few years, Tony owned and operated 15 health clubs, in New England and Florida.

Returning to California, Antonio worked with a private organization focused on rescuing the abducted children of diplomats and high profile individuals all over the world. All of these assignments were achieved in secret-- as those that were close to Antonio at the time had no idea of his private employment. During that time period, Antonio rescued seven children from the hands of abductors, with the most important element being that Antonio never used a weapon other than his physical and mental attributes in order to perform his missions.

Almeida ran health clubs in New England before moving his work to Miami Beach, where eventually he became personal trainer for Gloria Estefan and worked for the Estefan family for nine years. He worked for and continued to work with numerous high-profile and celebrity clients such as Shakira, Ricky Martin, Jon Secada, Madonna, Cindy Crawford, John Walsh, Lindsay Lohan, Ingrid Hoffman, to name a few.

The Re-Juven8 Women’s Boot Camp is Almeida’s initiative to bring the intensity of his personal training and other aspects of his background to bear on assisting those in need and with the necessary commitment.

Almeida points out that there is a lot of positive affirmation during the program.

“There is a lot of talk,” Almeida said. “I have a background in life coaching. While working out, [participants] are bombarded by positive reinforcement to encourage them. I wanted to gear Re-Juven8 to working people who want an intense experience and to be in the best shape of their lives.”
