A Juicy Guide to Businesses

POWER WOMEN 2007
Amy Losek Ladenheim

Do not let her petite physique fool you. Amy Losek Ladenheim is a powerhouse in business and on the mat.

In 1989, she left a lucrative career as a distributor for grocery, health and beauty aids to open a martial arts academy in Pembroke Pines. Her school, the largest in the area for children and adults, taught more than 400 active students within its first year of operation.

Combining savvy business skills with a passion for martial arts allowed Losek to create a unique program with traditional training and a progressive business style. Her business model has been written about in professional magazines, and her martial arts programs have been featured in local papers and on broadcast news stations.

Losek was the first female in Florida trained and certified to teach Krav Maga, an Israeli self-defense system that has become a fashionable style of training.

In January of this year, she opened a new chain of training schools called FIST, an acronym for Fighting Instruction Self-Defense Training. She opened her second such school in August and her third just a few weeks ago.

According to Losek, martial arts has gifted her with the discipline, perseverance and the “yes I can” attitude necessary to be successful in all areas of life. How would she describe herself? As “a true example of a person who wears a black belt not only around her waist, but also around her heart.”
