Reason for Season 2007: Fairs and Parties

Be a Voice, Take the Lead

The Voices for Children Foundation VIP Gala

The Voices for Children Foundation has two primary goals: making sure every abused or neglected child in Miami-Dade County is properly represented by a court-appointed guardian ad litem, and seeing that those children have the financial assistance and resources they need to be healthy and educated. The Voices for Children Foundation will hold the Be a Voice, Take the Lead Gala — its VIP fundraiser — at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. If past years are a guide, the gala will attract 500 influential members of the South Florida community. Tickets are $500; tables are $5,000 each. For more information, call 305-324-5678 or visit www.voices4.org.

Polonaise Ball

Relive the elegance and splendor of Poland’s rich past at the 36th Annual International Polonaise Ball.

Blanka Rosentiel had two goals when she founded the American Institute of Polish Culture in 1972. One was to acknowledge Poland’s contribution to Western civilization. The other was to create a center of educational facilities and resources to encourage Americans of Polish descent to pursue scientific endeavors. More than three decades later, the American Institute of Polish Culture is still going strong and celebrating with elaborate galas. The institute will celebrate the 36th Annual International Polonaise Ball Black-Tie Gala at Surf Club in Surfside on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. For more information, call 305-864-2349 or visit www.ampolinstitute.org.

Vizcayan’s 51st Annual Legendary Ball

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens lights up for its annual legendary ball.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a national landmark at 3251 S. Miami Ave. in Miami, was built in 1916 by agricultural industrialist James Deering. The county now owns the historic building and its 10 acres of formal gardens, but maintenance and upkeep falls to The Vizcayans, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for the facility and counts as members some of South Florida’s elite. The Vizcayans’ 51st Annual Legendary Ball will be held at the picturesque historical site on Saturday, Nov. 17. The evening begins with cocktails and a silent auction at 7 p.m., followed by dinner and dancing at 8:30 p.m. Tickets range from $600 to $2,500 per person; tables for 10 range from $6,000 to $25,000. For more information, call 305-856-4866 or visit www.vizcayamuseum.org.

Love and Hope Ball

Linda and Barry Gibb at last year’s Diabetes Research Foundation’s Love and Hope Ball.

The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami’s Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. Its aim: to transplant insulin-producing cells into those afflicted with diabetes and eliminate the need for insulin. Toward that end, the foundation has hosted some of the most exclusive balls, galas and events in South Florida. At the top of the list is the Love and Hope Ball, an event so sought-after that there is even a Love and Hope Preview Party. The Love and Hope Preview Party takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Diplomat Country Club in Hallandale Beach. The minimum cost for admission is a $250 donation. The Love and Hope Ball itself will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 6:30 p.m., at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood. The event will be hosted by longtime supporter Sonja Zuckerman, Barry and Linda Gibb, Sandra and Sid Levy, and Kathy Simkins and Clive Warwick. Tickets are $500. For information, call 954-964-4040 or visit www.diabetesresearch.org.
