NEW YEAR'S EVE GUIDE>>

It’s time to party. Living in a world-class party town certainly makes that easier to arrange, but a heck of a lot more complicated. Where does a well-heeled Miamian go for a great New Year’s Eve bash when there are so many fantastic options to choose from?

2008 Best Of South Florida

July 3, 2008

DJ Ross One

From behind the decks of some of the most exclusive clubs in Miami and beyond, DJ Ross One keeps the party people jumping till the wee hours of the morning. When he’s not gallivanting around the world spreading his turntable gospel, he’s right here in the Magic City. We thought it’d be cool to get some his favorite local destinations on record.

Best Hotel
The Standard. There are a lot of great hotels on the beach; whenever anyone asks me for a recommendation I always direct them to The Standard. Well designed, simple, inexpensive and health-oriented. The best pool and spa in Miami, and it doesn’t seem to attract that cheesy South Beach pool crowd that leaves a film of grease and silicone on the water surface. I’m always halfway hesitant to tell people about it because it’s still sort of a gem for me. Matter of fact, forget I ever mentioned it.

Best Nightclub
This is a tough one. There are so many good nightclubs in Miami Beach and downtown. My personal favorite club in Miami is Mokaï. Small enough to be intimate, but it has a booming system and major lighting for a bigger club feel, an upscale, attractive crowd and I can always find my friends there holding court right next to the booth. Also, with owners like Nicola Siervo, you can really feel that classic South Beach energy in the building from the top down. Tuesdays at Mokaï are quickly becoming legendary, and I look forward to that party every week.

Best Reason to Cross the Bridge
The best reason to cross the bridge is to get to the airport! Seriously, though, it’s essential to get off that beach as much as possible to keep your sanity. Music-wise, there’s a ton of great downtown DJs who really do their thing and will give you a music selection which is much more varied than what you’ll get on the beach. I’d check for the Money Shot party at Vagabond.

Best Restaurant

Joe’s Takeaway. Every summer, this amazing establishment closes, and I’m left wandering the streets aimlessly for days in agonizing misery and with recurring panic attacks. The main restaurant is, of course, one of Miami’s finest, but the takeaway side is where you will find me at least four days a week. Might be a cliché, but this place is hands down the best. They have a great, friendly staff, amazing food and also great music playing every time I walk in. Fresh lobster and Chaka Khan equals complete and total satisfaction in my book.

Locals Who Make Me Proud to Represent Miami
Rick Ross and Kimbo Slice.
