FRIDAY NIGHT & THE FICKLE MEDIA: Members of the media have received reputations placing them in categories worthy of criminals and pond scum. Friday night two of my media friends (who will remain nameless) earned their placement among the fickle and unpredictable. An early dinner at a new restaurant was planned with media friend #1 as we had been invited by the restaurant’s publicist, however late in the afternoon she called with apologizes that she could not make dinner. As it was too late to cancel the dinner I decided to go alone as media friend #2 was set to pick me up at this restaurant and head over to the post-screening party for the opening night of the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. The change in plans had me rushing around but I decided I had better check my emails before leaving. In my box was an email from media friend #2  stating that his ex-lover/wife/whatever had arrived at his doorstep that morning so he had to deal with that situation. Luckily I saw the email before leaving while the news pulled another rug out from under my evening. Was it so bad to miss a fabulous dinner and a wonderful party? I felt as if someone had stolen my evening from me. Just as I was deciding on a mood my mother called (she always puts me in the mood of her choice). Just as I pulled the covers over my head to hide from the world the phone rings again but this time it’s my friend Elaine Lancaster to the rescue. Elaine gives me 15 minutes to get dressed and happy (or a simulation) before she picks me up. Elaine and I arrive at the Intercontinental Hotel for the MGLFF post party for an hour of mingling, posing for photos, taking photos, searching for the gift bags and wondering which are the people that I should know and which are the people I already know. Among those SEEN: Lee Brian Schrager (Southern Wine & Spirits), publicist Lisa Palley, writer David Leddick, Glenn Mitchell (Gay Men’s Chorus), Ian McMinn (Gay Men’s Chorus), Yoko, Tony Miros (Mr. Nightlife), designer Pat Fields, artist Noel, Phillip Matthews (MGLFF), and Tara Gilani. Next stop was Level for a night of hip-hop (front room) and dance rhythms (Connie Casserole & JRNY). Among those SEEN: Tim & Lisa Clark, Jared, Marlin, Gerry Kelly, Lily Zanardi (Bolero) & Carl, Robert, Maxwell Blandford Jr., Jorge Telez (celebrating a birthday), and Alan T.

Three singers on Shore Leave. Glenn Mitchell, writer David Leddick, and Ian McMinn (of South Beach Gay Men’s Chorus) at Intercontinental Hotel.

MIAMI GAY & LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL CONTINUES: The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival continues through May 5th with an impressive roster of films, panels, and parties. Films shown at the festival two years ago are just now being released to the public. Many of the filmmakers are attending and will be available either in panel discussions of Q&A sessions after their films. Info for schedules and tickets is available online at www.miamigaylesbianfilm.com.

Three fabulous colorful creators. Vince

BEACH BUZZ: Some of the old school of South Beach celebrated hard during the last two weeks to celebrate the birthdays of Carmel Ophir, Mykel Stevens, DJ Shannon and Desiree Reyes. Danny’s boy Alan T. blew up the house last Saturday at crobar and it seems that his star is ready to shine. As the Back Door Bamby crew (Carmel, Mykel & Shannon) celebrate birthdays another Bambi resurfaces. Some of you may remember Bambi & the Boys and it seems she’s back with a soon-to-be released new CD. Drag diva Fantasy is moving to Orlando (it seems that the drag craze is over here). Those who like sailors had best check out South Beach Shore Leave the new extravaganza performance by the South Beach Gay Men’s Chorus (who also favor seaman…I mean sailors.) Remember to send all club info, invitations, outrageous gossip (for my diva friends) to Cubbysobe@hotmail.com. Until next week, see you out.
