POWER OF THE PRESS: Seems that the powerful gals of the glossies (Martha, Oprah & Rosie) continue to be news worthy themselves. Martha Stewart may be in real trouble herself because of her market activity (and I’m not talking about buying fresh veggies). The joke running now is that her new website will be called MarthaStewart.con. Oprah was honored on the 54th Emmy Awards presentation with the first Bob Hope Humanitarian Award and an impressive roster of celebrity kudos. Rosie O’Donnell recently made a public announcement that she could no longer work for the publication that bears her name since she no longer had any control over content. You go girls.

OPENING DOORS: Some were shocked to see me manning one of the VIP doors of Prive this past weekend but this job is not new to me. Last season I worked at the door of Lola, a popular bar/lounge, and found out more about what’s going on in South Beach than I could ever discover for myself just by hitting the clubs. Some were shocked to see me guarding a VIP doorway while others just kissed up to me because I stood between them and entrance to Prive. I had a blast and felt like I made a couple of hundred new friends. People were actually thanking me because they had a wonderful time (as if I had anything to do with it). Roman, Eric, Mark, Tony and Michael were all great hosts and I’ll be there every Friday night. Some of the parties planned for the season include the premiere of Madonna's new movie Swept Away with director husband Guy Ritchie, a birthday celebration for Roberto Cavalli of Ocean Drive Magazine, the Pre-Thank You Party for the Miami Starlight Gala with Roy and Lea Black, a birthday party for Ocean Drive Magazine's Jacquelynn Powers, a victory party for Oscar de la Hoya, the opening of Opium Garden's newest restaurant  "La Factoria" and the re-launch party of Fashion TV, hosted by the models of Model Flat. Say hello to the blond at the door.

OUT AND ABOUT: Last week the Fashion Against Breast Cancer benefit at Saks in Bal Harbour was filled with South Beach fashionistas as well as society types. Among those noshing on the variety of food samplings from the areas finest restaurants were Regine, monster of art Anastasia, art rep Roy Hansen, Lisa Umbel, Ernesto (the Loft), Elaine Lancaster, Kitty Meow, Merle & Danny Weiss, Lily Zanardi, Carl Sibole, Paula Walker (Rumi), Alan Roth, and DJ Mark Leventhal. Afterwards I went to B.E.D. for dinner but ended up having champagne instead. Handsome doorman Fabrizio was celebrating his birthday before taking his post at the door. Stopped by Bolero’s third anniversary party (which is like twenty in South Beach years) on Saturday night. Had time for just one cocktail before heading off for a road trip to Fort Lauderdale with Elaine Lancaster and Kitty Meow to see singer Kristine W. at the Coliseum (where I’ve never been before). The show was great (Kristine W. is such a pro and her show was so slick) and the crowd (peppered with quite a few from South Beach) went wild (okay, maybe they were already wild).

BEACH BUZZ: Ryan York likes to fill beds with happy people. He’s having another “Sleep With Me” party at the Aqua Hotel this Friday night. Drop by and party or stay all night (just $25 a person overnight stay/double occupancy). If you missed last week’s Women of Waldorf then you missed belly dancers in the windows of the 3rd floor suite, lesbians lounging, hip girls snoozing, and a few hot boys to round things out. Women of Waldorf every Wednesday night. Need a little madness added to your life? How about Crispy’s Freskita Madness served along with the jolly pop Monday-Friday during the Raleigh Jolly Hour at the Raleigh Hotel Bar from 5-9 p.m. Seems the all you can drink champagne brunch at the Clevelander has become a favorite of the party crowd with mimosas, create your own omelets, smooth jazz, Grand Marnier French toast, delicious fresh bagels from Coral Bagels and a create your own Bloody Mary Station. Why bother going to bed when you can just have brunch. Remember to send all nightlife info to Cubbysobe@hotmail.com. Until next week, see you out.
