Street Talk 1-30
Question: We need a break from Iraq, North Korea and the tanking economy. Seen any good movies lately? Any predictions on this year’s Best Picture
Oscar?

Fabio Moretti, Miami Beach, business owner, 28
“I really enjoyed Y Tu Mama También, an excellent Mexican movie. I tend to like the foreign films. I don’t usually like Hollywood films – not the
typical ones at least. I just saw and really liked 25th Hour, the Spike Lee movie with Edward Norton. I have a feeling The Pianist, the historical movie about the
Holocaust, will win the Best Picture Oscar this year, even though it’s not your typical movie. I haven’t seen it yet, but I will soon.”

Elizabeth Duffy, London, England, flight attendant, 32
“I haven’t seen Frida, but that was one I really wanted to see. I’m kind of disappointed with the movies this year, honestly. Adaptation I
didn’t like at all. I thought it was outrageously unbelievable. The Gangs of New York was also a disappointment. The Others was an excellent film I really enjoyed. Nicole
Kidman is fantastic. I’m looking forward to seeing Chicago.”

Nancy Fisher, Miami Beach, registered nurse, 44
“I just saw Adaptation and I loved it. It was like nothing I’ve seen before and I recommend it if you’re a film lover. It has a very brilliant
script. What I like is not what the Academy goes for usually: something that’s well written, interesting and intelligent. It has to have substance and a believable storyline.”

Adam Montalvo, Miami Beach, bartender, 35
“I haven’t seen too much recently that I liked that much. I did like The Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks. He’s a good actor. It was well
directed and had a good story. For me to really like a movie it’s got to be something heartfelt that you can relate to. They’re making too many action movies that are all shooting and
special effects and daredevil stunts – which I enjoy too, but it has to have some sort of reality.”

Julie Steinberg, Chicago, sales manager, 30
“The Mexican film The Crime of Father Amparo is the best film of the last few months. It was so realistic and it opened a window onto some of the
corruption in the Mexican church – like ties to drug trafficking and priests having sex with women. Catch Me If You Can was pretty good. The storyline was imaginative and pretty
amazing. It was entertaining. I’ve heard The Hours is fantastic.”
