QUIET PLEASE, WE’RE HAVING FUN: Just as I predicted, and there were those who laughed, the music trend will become passé so we can party to silence. Well, I
doubt that will ever happen but in New York City, the birth of cutting-edge, there’s a new hip party where no DJs are needed called The Quiet Party. This roving party offers party
sounds more fitting for a library than a nightclub and talking is even discouraged. A special VIP section is available where talking is completely forbidden. Imagine a party where you
don’t have to scream over the blaring music. Michael Musto of The Village Voice shared his experiences with this new party trend in his recent column and his inner voice
screamed “This is not right!” My foretelling of music-less parties was just in jest however I imagined these parties without music as a fertile ground for the rebirth of conversation. It
will never happen.
MODELS AND BOAT: On Thursday evening I made two stops at Rumi for the Pop Photography Exhibit (translation: slide show). This was one of those
rare evenings when I had booked myself with two different groups hoping that they would travel in unison. Wrong. One group was early and one group late and I, being the crazy person that
I am, tried to maintain places in both groups. Group one also made a brief stop at Sky Bar for a cocktail under the stars. While the visiting New Yorkers were quite comfortable
lounging on this chilly evening we, of the thin blood, Miami dwellers chose to seek the warmth produced by a room full of dancing models. At Rumi there was a bountiful selection of eye
candy, as slides of gorgeous models flashed on the screen above while below the real thing danced and mingled as they transformed the dining area into a lounge. This picture perfect crowd
treated Rumi as if it were their private hangout while the older party fixtures maintained their places at the bar.

A motley group gathers for a photo. DJ Nayib Estefan, Elaine Lancaster, Lisa Almy
and Anthony Haas at Pure Lounge.
AN AWARD SHOW THAT’S A DRAG: As one of the presenters (The Best Costume Award) for the Shelley Novak Awards, I couldn’t just wear my normal black Cubby
costume. I’ve a closet full of suits, jackets and pants, but they’re all black and unless you’re paying very close attention (and I hope you’re not) to what I’m wearing it probably appears
that I’m wearing the same old suit (again). Nurielle (located a couple of doors down from Level) had just closed its men’s store so everything was on sale. How perfect was
that? I waltzed over to the men’s rack and pulled out a suit. Amazingly enough this suit fit perfectly. How rare is that? The first item that I picked and both jacket and pants fit. The
stretch blend-fabric gave the suit a fun feel but alas, the color was black. I wore the suit proudly, but to the untrained eye, I was wearing the same old black suit. Fans swarmed Shelley
Novak (yeah, right) on Monday night and there were so many drag queens that we could barely make it to the stage. For those of you who have never experienced the Shelley Novak Awards and
imagine it’s similar to the Academy Awards, think again. Imagine producing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on a budget of $12.50 and instead of floats, you have drag queens
decked out in extremes of the tackiest and the most glamorous creations in all of South Florida. No film clips, no songs, no commercials, just awards (plastic dolls spray-painted gold)
being presented one after the other. It’s an award show like no other (thankfully) but it’s not to be missed. SEEN: Shelley Novak, Mykel Stevens, Tamar, Dani & Tania (The Witches),
Janet Jorgulesco & photographer Tom Grizzle, Rudolph Piper (Nerve), DJ Shannon, David Marvel, Adrian, Edison Farrow, Sexcilia, Adora, Desiree Reyes,
Crispy, Daisy Deadpetals, singer Michael M., James Davis, Wire publisher Carl Zablotny, photographer J.R., Patricia Fedora, Rachel (Nurielle), and
thousands of drag queens and their fans of Bamby.
BEACH BUZZ: Crobar is turning three so on Friday night there’s a birthday party fit for kids of all ages.
Everyone’s invited for ice cream and cake, popcorn and cotton candy. A special appearances by Big Bird, Elmo and their friends will be on hand to entertain the crowd along with
stilt-walkers, clowns and pony tailed dancers. Don’t worry there will also be the normal club madness and late-night playground with DJ Dave Ralph. The witches (Dani & Tania)
celebrated their birthday this past Monday night at Crobar’s Back Door Bamby party and next week Crobar will be transformed into a world of Pop, as in Andy Warhol’s Pop, for
the birthday celebration of Rudolph Piper, South Beach’s self-proclaimed Andy Warhol. The incredible singer, voice impressionist, comedian and entertainer Jimmy James will be making
an exclusive Miami appearance at the club Twist (next to the 11th Street Diner on Washington Ave.) on Wednesday February 26th. Be amazed as this
talented performer brings the legends to life again. Party under the stars at this new Thursday night party at Skybar hosted by Ernesto Arambatzis. Remember to send all nightlife
