The Best of the Beaches is an advertising gimmick.
What? Are we going to lie? Are we going to tell you that we decided to sit here and figure out several hundred
Best ofs because we were swept with a wave of creativity or an insane journalistic notion that —damn our personal lives—besides covering local news we are going to work double shift
because the people just have to know what WE think is the best park, the best county department, the best restaurant lounge, the best boutique, the best eyeglass shop on Collins Avenue,
the best picnic spot in Downtown Miami, etc.?
No, we do this because you kids love reading this stuff. Heck, that’s why other publications all over the country have variations of their own “Best ofs.” And that’s
what their respective sales armies use as a means of making these issues a lot thicker than their usual editions.
Not to say they enjoy it either. We have witnessed the minds of the SunPost sales staff slowly deteriorate over the weeks as they strive to make their sales
goals. Ever saw One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest? Well, one of our sales guys tried to throw a water cooler out of our office window as a means of making an “escape.” It wasn’t
pretty.
So we hope you are amused, readers. It cost us many a brain cell, hours of sleep, a personal life, and our last vestige of sanity.
