* Some 75,000 spectators saw cars racing down Biscayne Boulevard at speeds close to 180 MPH during the 2nd annual
Grand Prix Americas presented by Sportsbook.com, held September 26 – 28 in the streets of Downtown Miami, according to event promoters.
“The second annual Grand Prix Americas was a huge success,” said Chuck M. Martinez, president and general
manager of Grand Prix Americas. “While the forecast for the weekend weather was gloomy and the rain in some parts of South Florida may have kept some people away, the sun did not stop
shining at the track. We had three days of racing with four races, two concerts and a host of celebrities that made this year’s international celebration another Blast by the Bay. We saw
marked increases in general admission tickets, an increase in sponsors and we sold out all of our premium suites.”
In addition to attracting thousands of spectators to downtown Miami, the final television rating for Sunday’s CBS
broadcast of the Grand Prix Americas presented by Sportsbook.com was 1.3, reaching 1.45 million households, according to a Conroy Martinez release. Similar to last year, this year’s
broadcast was the largest television share for any CART race this season.
Greater Miami Convention and Visitor’s Bureau officials state that Downtown Miami hotel occupancies for
September 25 – 28 (race weekend) increased to 80 percent. This is in contrast to last year’s occupancy averages of the same hotels for the same four days (non-race weekend) that were
slightly more than 50 percent.

Manuel Grossy, PhD, district manager of AAA Parking, was recently appointed Honorary Co-Chairman of the Business Advisory Council.
Grossy will represent the state of Florida and play a crucial role in the Republican Party’s efforts to involve top business people in the process of
government reform. The Business Advisory Council, which is part of the National Republican Congressional Committee, makes sure that small business has a voice in Washington.
“I travel to Washington approximately every three months to deal with issues such as tax reform and the integration of minorities in government contracts,”
Grossy said.
Grossy also won the Business Man of the Year award 2003 for the state of Florida, given by the National Republican Congressional Committee.
He is a member of the American Manager Association, International Parking Institute and Florida Parking Association. In the month of August, the
International Parking Institute Magazine published his thesis on parking entitled Parking: Challenge to the New Century. Grossy believes that the availability of accessible,
economical parking and good service is essential in the continued success of Florida commercial districts and residential neighborhoods.
Born in Uruguay, Grossy received his PhD in Business from Harrington University in England.
“I came to the United States 14 years ago. I live with my three children in Miami,” Grossy said. His 21 year-old son attends Florida International University
and is majoring in Business Administration. His two daughters go to high school.
AAA Parking was opened in Miami in 1994. They offer valet parking operations, parking management and parking consulting and pride themselves on operating a
first class parking facility. “AAA Parking is at this point the biggest valet parking company in the south with more than 160 properties in hotels, hospitals and special events,” Grossy
said.
Grossy has yet another honor slated for October: “On October 7, I’m going to Washington to receive the Gold Medal from the Republican Party, the maximum
distinction that the Republican Congressional Committee gives to a citizen.”
