Nightlife
Turning heads at the 30th Anniversary of The Exorcist. Shareef Malnik &
Linda Blair at The Forge.
By Cubby
A LIFE OF LINES: On South Beach we’re used to lines and I’m used to cutting them going right to the front (a perk of the
press). I knew I’d have no such luck when voting, but I thought I’d remedy that by voting early. I voted on Saturday and waited in line over 2 hours. While some wait that long to gain
entrance into some of our hottest clubs I would only wait that long to vote. And I did, proudly.
COSTUMES & COCKTAILS: What a week! On Tuesday night I joined fellow media types for a dinner at Harrison Steakhouse
(open once again) for a delicious 5-course dinner where I was overstuffed. The food kept coming and I kept eating. After I finished my dessert (Upside-Down Crème Brulee Surprise) I found I
could barely get up. I finally rejuvenated myself so I could make an appearance at Sushi Samba for the premiere of Wasabi, Mykel Steven’s new Tuesday night party
featuring Rock & Roll Karaoke. I mingled among the hipsters and fashionistas (mingling and air kissing works off calories) until I had to sit at the back bar to watch the show (of
singers and lovelies). Among those seen were Janet Jorgulesco, Kasha, Sarah Lynn & Nick McCabe (Cooljunkie.com), Ernesto Armabatzis, Tommie Strangie,
David Marvel, Carmel Ophir, Bobette, Michael Tronn, Michael Stanley, Merle & Danny Weiss, Sarah Churchville & Angel, Aaron Von Powel,
Carolina Castillo (Deco Drive), David Bick and Patricia Prado. The Halloween events began on Wednesday night (October 27th) with the 30th
Anniversary of the film The Exorcist at The Forge hosted by Linda Blair. The Forge creatively decorated for a fright night and showed the film on one wall while
on the other side of the restaurant actors portrayed Regan (Linda Blair’s character) being blessed by a priest. The adorable Linda Blair was gracious to all, chatting away and promoting
her animal rights charity. On Thursday night we headed to the Miami Design District for an art exhibition closing party (but also a pre-Art Miami event) hosted by Carlos &
Rosa de La Rosa and Craig Robbins at the Moore Building. Next stop was the Vox/Out Magazine Voices of Style + Design Awards 2004 at Nuage Designs. An
attractive martini-sipping crowd posed and grooved as young boys performed (an updated version of break-dancing). Local designer Steven Giles (Base) was honored with the
award. On Friday night I was at a loss for a costume to wear so I donned an old White Party outfit (a white suit covered with nearly a hundred little white satin balls) for my gig
at Prive’s Irene Marie Models’ Halloween Party with guest DJ Felix Da Housecat. Who knew I’d have so much fun and have so many people play with my balls? Casa Casuarina,
the former Versace Mansion that will soon be an invitation-only club, hosted (along with Peter Loftin) a Halloween extravaganza on Saturday night. Dressed as myself (wearing only my

dentist who whitens most of the models in town), I played voyeur and watched the costumed crowd
dance by the pool and parade through the still-magnificent mansion. On Halloween day I luckily chanced by the most adorable costume event of the week on Lincoln Road that gave dogs a
chance to dress up. This contest was a Canine Costume Contest where owners dressed their dogs in adorably creative costumes. Ernesto Arambatzis, a master of dressing up
himself, proudly announced that his little dog won (since I missed the awards presentation). Later that night I joined a massive crowd, where the costumes were the best I had seen all
week, for Michael Tronn’s Anthem at Mansion. The variety of costumes was impressive with a staggering number of men dressed as divas and Barbarella’s costume was like
a one-person parade. Hosts included diva Elaine Lancaster (as a brunette), Adora, Sage Molotov, Janet Jorgulesco, Michael Stanley, Dana Dowd and Joe
Bon with Danny Tenaglia providing the musical inspiration of course the party rocked. Now that Halloween is over everyone can return to wearing the normal nightlife attire
(which is often more frightening than what I witnessed this week).
WEEKLY PARTIES: South Beach’s favorite diva Maryel Epps returns to the Hotel Astor/Metro Kitchen (where she
once reigned with her infamous Gospel Brunch) offering her beautiful vocal gospel and blues vocal stylings for the Sunday Brunch crowd.
BEACH BUZZ: Are you ready to dance your butts off? Join the party on Thursday (Nov. 4th) at Prive with
Jane Magazine’s non-stop dance-off (9 p.m. – midnight). Join fellow sports fans at State on Thursday night for the Miami Heat Kick-off After-Party with the Miami
Heat players (a possible Shaquille O’Neal sighting) & Miami Heat Dancers. Cooljunkie, the nightlife website, celebrates a 4-year Anniversary Saturday (Nov. 6th)
at Crobar with DJ Pete Tong. Remember to send all nightlife info and invitations to Cubby@miamisunpost.com. Until next week, see you out.
