Old Lisbon Restaurant:
A Taste of Europe

House specialties are traditionally Portuguese, and seafood is a major theme.

By Rayme Samuels

Old Lisbon Restaurant evokes the smells, sights and delectable cuisine of the Portuguese capital city. Owner Carlos Silva effortlessly brings Lisbon, world renowned for its seafood dishes, to an unassuming corner bistro on Coral Way.

Cobblestone accents, white tablecloths and rustic paintings transport the diner from the hustle of Miami to a secluded spot in the quaint city that borders the Atlantic. Two dining rooms, one with a gourmet open kitchen, enhance the comforting spirit of the venue, making it seem like you are in the house of a dear friend, one who just happens to be a culinary master.

House specialties are traditionally Portuguese, and seafood is a major theme.

For those willing to dive headfirst into an authentic meal, order Linguado à Algarvia, a sautéed Dover Sole baked in port wine and garnished with roasted almonds and figs ($29.95). Carnivores will enjoy the Bife à “Old Lisbon,” a 14-ounce Prime Angus Steak embedded in a creamy garlic sauce topped with an egg and served with rice and potatoes ($17.95).

A varied wine menu provides diners ample choices from which to whet their appetites. The extensive collection of more than 40 aged port wines also offers a perfect finish to the meal.

If you choose to incorporate liqueurs with your desserts, try the Peras com Vinho do Porto (Pears in Port Wine, $ 5.95) or the Pudim Português com Vinho do Porto (Port Wine-Flavored Caramel Cream Custard, $ 5.95).

Come for a relaxed and classy evening with your loved ones and share the delicious flavors of Portugal. Old Lisbon is open until late, to ensure that diners take their time and embrace the romantic traditions of the old country. And on your way out, don’t forget to thank the chef with a kind obrigado.

Old Lisbon Restaurant is located at 1698 SW 22nd St., Miami.

Hours of operation are noon to 11 p.m. Monday to Thursday, until 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and until 10 p.m. Sunday.
