Sending Arriola the
Bill
If former City
Manager Joe Arriola was negligent in ordering work done on the
Orange Bowl by Hammes Co. without a contract or authorization from
the city of Miami, then he must pay.
If he is to blame
for a $750K bill, then he should be made to pay for his mistake and
not the taxpayers of Miami.
Send Arriola the
bill or take him to court.
Or better yet place
him in jail until he pays us the money he owes us for his mistakes
with Hammes, fire fee, salaries owed those he fired without just
cause and the salaries he spent on those he hired without
justification.

Aspire to Be
More Than Just a Ragged Tabloid!
Dear Editors,
I am misquoted and
misrepresented in Angie Hargot’s article on Election Night
[published Nov. 9]. As I told your writer at the event: I am a Miami
native (fifth generation!). However, I moved back here just a
month ago, so I have not been “working” on the campaign for
“months.” I work for a nonprofit in the Gables. I told your writer
that.
My point is that
I’m a volunteer. We all are out there, working to inform our
neighbors as we defend our friend, Linda Haskins, against criticisms
from the other side.
I think that you
have a responsibility to inform your readership. The SunPost
could be more than a tabloid. It is so easy to attack Linda because
Mayor Manny Diaz likes her. So what? Appointing her was the best
thing he’s done, and in my opinion, he owes her, not the other way
around.
Thank you,
Kathryn (not

Invasion of the
Absentee Ballot Mercenaries
You want to talk
about “Election Novellas” [Wakefield, “Election Novellas and the
Electronic Citizen,” published Oct. 26]? Add yet another twist to
this race for District 2: the absentee ballots. I personally
received a flier from another political candidate with an absentee
ballot request. This request has a name, address, telephone, city,
state, zip code, telephone, birth date and signature lines. You
would think that with all this information with the header “Absentee
Ballot Request,” it would go directly to the Department of
Elections, correct? WRONG!
This request is a
prepaid card that goes to the campaign headquarters of the political
candidate. Under the guise of acting as facilitators for the poor
elderly, who are among the largest voting demographics, these sharks
send their minions to these people to “help” them fill it out and
even volunteer to mail it for them.
Think I’m nuts?
Then how in God’s green earth can Mayor Manny Diaz and Commissioner
Joe Sanchez win re-election to their seats from absentee ballots?
For crying out loud, they received more absentee ballots than actual
voters who turned out to vote, and many other of those
absentee ballots came from elderly nursing homes or assisted living
facilities from people that can barely even sign! You see where I am
going with this right? Our elderly are duped into voting for someone
because they take them Cuban pastries, or little toys, fans or other
items like children then abandoned.
I know many people
who feel disgusted that such a tool can be utilized by these people
to help leverage votes in their favor and I for one will write
whomever I need to so that legal precautions and stipulations are
created to defend those people who are taken advantage of. I have
walked and talked to these people and this should not be allowed.
They are treated like numbers, when the absentee mercenaries target
these sites like stalkers preying on their victims.
