While temperatures
may drop this winter, the music scene should stay mighty hot with
plenty of concerts and musical festivals.
Superstar concert
tours are soon heading south. R&B
Prince Charmings Omarion and
Ne-Yo are scheduled for the
Scream Tour Nov. 22 at the
American Airlines Arena. Prepare for sultry crooning, fireworks, and
plenty of excited teen girls.
After the
release of his long-awaited smash hip-hop album in September, Justin
Timberlake has found his way back to his one true love. Not Cameron,
live performance. The “FutureSex/LoveShow” tour will be hitting
Miami on Feb. 24, 2007. But that’s not all. Remember the punky diva
with the fluorescent-colored hair? We hope the opening act of Pink
for JT’s show can “get the party started” as well as she did years
back.
Shakira’s “Oral
Fixation” tour returns to Miami on Dec. 6, 7 and 9 at the American
Airlines Arena. For those who missed the spectacular show the first
time around, be sure to buy tickets early.
There are more than
just large stage shows in store. The season’s endless music
festivals have their appeal as well. Locals and tourists have been
waiting long for the Bang Music Festival to shake Bicentennial Park
on Nov. 11. With headlining acts like Common, Daft Punk, Tiesto,
Yerba Buena, Roger Sanchez and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, fans will
happily get exactly what they paid for: an assortment of the
greatest music in reggae, electronica, house, soul and funk. A
highlight of the tour will be a performance by reunited ’80s rockers
Duran Duran.
Mantra Sounds
Records hosts the MANTRA International World Music Festival on Feb.
9 and 10, 2007, showcasing live concerts and dance performances
representing many intriguing global cultures.
The Carnival Center
for the Performing Arts will host the Subtropics Experimental Music
& Sound Arts Festival from Feb. 23 to March 4, 2007, with a series
of musical performances in conjunction with Merce in Miami, a
two-week citywide celebration of dance, music and art.
For classical music aficionados, the Miami Bach Society will
be hosting the International Tropical Baroque Music Festival VII
from March 3 to 11, 2007 in
Coral Gables.
On March 27, the
Ultra Music Festival will wrap up the weeklong Winter Music
Conference homage to the electronic scene at Bicentennial Park. This
is a must-hear event for devoted clubbers ready to party with some
of the most famous DJs in the world.
Traditional concertgoers will not be disappointed over the next few
months. For those interested in all things European, mod English
rockers The Who will perform at the Bank Atlantic Center on Nov. 20.
The stages at the
Carnival Center for the Performing Arts will see a lot of action
this winter with performances that cross all music genres. Grease
star Olivia Newton-John will visit on Dec. 2. Beautiful Cape Verdean
morna performer Lura will grace the stage on Dec. 8. Cuban Jazz
great and Miami Beach jazz club namesake Arturo Sandoval is slated
to play what will surely be a memorable gig on Dec. 16. Brazilian
Minister of Culture and musical icon Gilberto Gil will treat with
Brazilian beats on March 20, 2007.
And last but
certainly not least, it’s not unusual at all that Tom Jones will
play to hundreds of adoring fans at the Bank Atlantic Center on
April 13, 2007. With all these choices, make sure to have a comfy
pair of dancing shoes ready.
