Departing on a High Note

The SunPost article was excellent [“So Long Tuesday,” published Dec. 7]. It actually captured the essence of the exchange I had with Ryan and brought it to life. This is one reason why people should study English lit.

The Evolution of the SunPost: Keeping an Eye on Big Brother

Great article on “Big Brother” and the ACLU! Omar Sommereyns did a fantastic job [“Big Brother,” published Nov. 30]. I also saw some older issues of the SunPost and I have to say that you’ve done a complete turnaround of the paper.

Earning the Treister Murry Agency Seal of Approval

Just wanted to thank you for such an amazing article on the Chinese delegation, “The Beijing Connection,” published Nov. 30. We have received great feedback!

I’m an Educator With a Lot of Spare Time. I’ll Send My Résumé … Can You Take A Look?

To Whom It May Concern:

I read your recent article “The Beijing Connection” (Nov. 30) and was happy to hear the good news about our city's plan to increase the Chinese business/tourist population.

I assume there will be employment opportunities for those living in Miami Beach and would like to become involved in the project. My background is in education, but I am willing to work in any capacity. I lived in Asia for several years and currently work with an English language school in South Korea developing Business English curriculum via the Internet. I have a lot of free time and am available to work part-time.

Please contact me with any job opportunities you may have, particularly in the South Beach area, where I live. I am American, but sincerely love the Asian culture. It would be a pleasure to be a part of this wonderful program.

A ‘Dianche’ Named Streetcar

Re: “The Beijing Connection,” published Nov. 30

Imagine my surprise upon seeing Miami Beach’s mayor bedizened like an Asiatic potentate in full regalia, right down to the tassels. I betcha Kublai Khan flipped with envy! We’ve always suspected a bit of the poobah about you, Mayor David Dermer.

Seraglio asides aside, tho’, we appreciate your efforts on behalf of us Beachites over the years (except that time you dropped the ball in the end zone on BayLink, I mean), so I wanted to give you your props publicly as we enter your last year of mayoralty for a difficult job well done.

But, say, did you ever get to ride a dianche — that’s Chinese for streetcar — while you were there?

A deal is a deal, especially when it comes to public walkways along the bay.

Murmurs
In most places, white vans are associated with serial killers. In Bay Harbor they’re associated with disappearing free weeklies. And high parking-impact fees may get higher in Miami Beach, inspiring one business owner to beg for mercy.

Wakefield
Are you an outstanding person with a reputation for commitment and serving the community? Well you may soon be able to serve on a Miami committee — even if you don’t live, work or own property in the city.

Film
What film out there deserves a really low star rating from the great and knowledgeable Dan Hudak? Hint: It has to do with flying reptiles who exhale fire.

Art
SunPost writers offer advice and observations for those who can’t accept the fact that Art Basel has gone away — until 2007, that is.

Have any burning questions about how burlesque came to be? John Hood has found the perfect book for you.

Apparently Fisher Island never got the memo about there being an alleged slump in the real estate market. Plus: Parking gets aquatic at one South Beach project.
