Walk, drive or sail your way into Finnegan’s River for a reward at this conveniently located venue. This treasure, hidden downtown almost underneath I-95, is a pleasant and welcome waterside surprise for those who can’t make it to the other Finnegan’s locations on South Beach, or choose to stick to the mainland. This Irish pub offers a flavor shot of the sultry Miami lifestyle and provides a perfect haven for those who are serious about both food and socializing.

The entrée menu crammed with steak, lobster, pizza, chicken and seafood combinations is geared for hearty appetites. Contrarily, those with picky palates should make sure to come on the right day of the week: Tuesday nights are prime rib nights, Wednesdays are lobster nights and Thursdays are steak nights.

To begin, enjoy appetizers from the raw bar, like a dozen fresh shucked oysters served raw or steamed on the half shell for $11.95.

The house specialty is the Lobster Thermidor, sautéed and then baked with a blend of cheeses, white wine, celery, mushrooms and cream sauce (market price). Also try Tony’s Special Skirt Steak, another house specialty comprising more than a pound of hand- trimmed skirt steak marinated with a secret sauce, for $20.95.

Happy hour, from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, is well attended by a crowd that is truly young at heart. At the bar, patrons can find the general mix of wine, champagne, beer and premium spirits.

Friday nights at Finnegan’s, pop hits and classics blare across the spacious open courtyard, which surrounds a swimming pool and hot tub — a perfect way to de-stress after a hectic work week.

Finnegan’s River is located at 401 SW Third Ave., Miami. Call 305-856-7881 or visit www.finnegansriver.com. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to late every day. Metered parking is available on the street and boat docking is available. All major credit cards are accepted.
