Commissioner Declares Candidacy For State Legislature
Steinberg was
elected to the Miami Beach City Commission in 2001.
Another
Miami Beach city commissioner has declared his intent to run
for the State Legislature.
Commissioner Richard L. Steinberg announced today that he has
filed as a Democratic candidate for the Florida State House
of Representatives, District 106. Steinberg, whose last term
in Miami Beach office is in 2009, will resign in Nov. 2008.
Last November, Commissioner Luis Garcia resigned after being
elected state representative. Michael Gongora was elected to
finish Garcia’s last term on the commission.
Steinberg’s platforms will include fighting for a rational
approach to the homeowner's insurance crisis as well as
“real education reforms” and “a solution to the region's
traffic nightmares.”
“It's not often that voters have the opportunity to elect a
life-long resident of the district to represent them,"
Steinberg said. “But by doing so, the voters will know that
they have elected someone who understands their needs.”
Steinberg was elected to the Miami Beach City Commission in
2001. His father, State Senator Paul Steinberg, served in
the Florida Legislature for a decade, from 1972 to 1982.
