City of Aventura
Candidates Must Qualify by Friday
The city agreed to waive early voting for the March
6 municipal elections. Incumbents Bob Diamond and Zev Auerbach are
both running for re-election, and Harry Holzberg is forced to resign
because of term limits. So far, Diamond and Auerbach are running
unopposed; running for Holzberg’s seat is the commissioner’s wife,
Teri, and real estate broker Gustavo Blachman.
The qualifying period for candidates runs until 4:30
p.m., Friday, Feb. 9. Just as in the 2006 charter revision special
election, Government Center will serve as a polling place in the
absence of the Northeast Regional Library. For more information
about qualifying for the March 6 elections, call the Office of the
City Clerk at 305-466-8901.
Commissioners also praised Commissioner Holzberg on
the last meeting of his 11-year career as an elected city official.
Holzberg, an advocate of incorporation, was one of the members of
the first board of city commissioners elected after the city
incorporated in 1995.
