Pop 007 Dazzles While Raising Funds for MOCA Collection

On Feb. 10, 800 VIPs, socialites, artists and art lovers attended Pop 007, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s James Bond-themed benefit — quite the glamorous affair, with guests dressed gorgeously as Bond beauties and secret agent wannabes. Even the lampshades donned feather boas! Hosted by MOCA’s Patron Executive Committee, more than $300,000 was raised to fund acquisitions of art by emerging and mid-career artists for MOCA’s permanent collection.

Part of the museum was transformed into a mock casino, where guests played blackjack and roulette for a top prize of a weekend’s use of an Aston Martin V8 Vantage loaned by The Collection while the Silent Auction included incredible jewelry, international trips, exquisite fashion and home design items, and sports memorabilia.

One of the evening’s highlights was famed drag queen Adora’s sultry rendition of “Diamonds Are Forever”. In addition, partygoers danced to fabulous music being spun by DJ Hottpants and DJ Shlomi.

MOCA Director Bonnie Clearwater took the opportunity to announce a major donation from Dr. Sanford and Dolores Ziff for MOCA’s Endowment so that current and future generations may continue to enjoy the museum.

Guests sampled delicious food prepared by top chefs from Sonesta Hotels and Resorts, Norman’s Grill, Sara Sharpe Catering, Taste Buds, Touch Catering and chocolates by Ghiradelli. Karla Conceptual Event Experiences and Le Basque coordinated the event, while beverages were sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka, Beaulieu Vineyard and Sterling Vineyards.  Starbucks Coffee provided the perfect ending to a perfect evening. And let’s not forget the gift bags, sponsored by Giorgio Armani and Grey Goose Vodka, who treated guests to a full-size bottle of Armani Black Code perfume or cologne.

Attending Pop 007 were MOCA Chairman Irma Braman and husband Norman Braman, North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns, Belkys Nerey (Honorary Chair) SBI Investment Realty’s Diane and Alan Lieberman (POP 007 Honorary Chairs and sponsors) Martin Karvelis of The Stanford Group (POP 007 Sponsor) and wife Susie, Sofia and Mike Segal (POP 007 Sponsors), Diana and Louis Jaffe (Casino Sponsors) and Event Co-Chairs Chae DuPont, Lourdes Jofre-Collett and Susan Zarchen. Among the Miami artists at the party were Daniel Arsham, Natalia Benedetti, Beatriz Monteavaro, Gavin Perry, Ali Prosch, David Rohn, and Naomi Fisher.

Graphic designer Zoa Martinez’s original designs for the party included a 60-foot video wall installation featuring bold graphics and images of a distinctive Bond-like character. Even the outside façade of the museum was painted in the Pop 007’s eye-popping red, black and white motif. MOCA’s galleries were open throughout the evening for docent tours of the special exhibition Merce Cunningham: Dancing on the Cutting Edge.
