Tennis, Charity and Naked Woody

Russell Simmons, J.R. and Loren Ridinger, Paulina Rubio

By Kris Conesa

Nautica miles

Sometimes, after many a night of debaucherous activities, I feel the need to cleanse my body of the evil toxins coursing through my system. I make up for the decadent lifestyle by committing myself to some sort of athletic endeavor that will no doubt rejuvenate my body and thus serve as the quintessential detox program. That being said, I would be remiss to give up my celebrity stalker ways, right? That’s why it’s imperative that I find an activity that is celebrity-heavy, like working out with Matt Damon at the Me! Gym in the Design District. Or something a little more public, like what’s going down on the beach this weekend.

The First Annual Nautica South Beach Triathlon, benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and presented by Toyota, is a highly anticipated race that expects to draw thousands of spectators. Participants will gather on South Beach before dawn, and at 7:15 a.m. will run into the Atlantic for a half-mile ocean swim. Then they will bike 18 miles over Miami Beach’s causeways, enjoying scenic views of the intracoastal waterways, downtown Miami and Miami Beach. The event will conclude with a four-mile run through the Art Deco District, with a grand finish on the beach.

As for celebs, there should be quite a few. Heading up the women’s “Dream Team” is none other than local hottie and tennis superstar Anna Kournikova. Geoff Stults from the movie October Road, Andy Baldwin from The Bachelor, celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito and a host of others are also scheduled to participate. Who knows, maybe Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson or Jennifer Aniston will show up. They’ve been everywhere else this week.

Star mapping

Where, you ask? Well, let’s see. On Friday, Aniston was spotted working out at the Mandarin Oriental, where sources say the actress couldn’t stop checking out a hot blond guy lifting weights. The same day, Owen Wilson made an appearance at the Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament, along with Woody Harrelson. They were there to watch the women’s final (Jelena Janovic vs. Serena Williams). Wilson, wearing a blue shirt and baseball cap, appeared jovial and sober throughout the games. Harrelson, sporting a scruffy beard and a gray shirt with jeans, did not. After tennis, Wilson and Harrelson retired to Wilson’s rented estate on Star Island, where the two decided to cool off by jumping into the bay. Wilson was wearing blue shorts while Woody dove in naked. Later that night the pair hooked up with Jennifer Aniston for cocktails and dinner at The Tides Hotel on Ocean Drive. On Sunday, Wilson also attended the men’s final (Nikolay Davydenko vs. Rafael Nadal). He was with Marley & Me Director David Frankel. Sources say some members of Wilson’s family were also with him, but not his brother Luke.

What a rush

If seeing Woody’s woody isn’t your cup of celebrity tea, there was also the Rush Philanthropic’s Art for Life fundraising event at The Bath Club on Miami Beach Saturday night. John Quiñones of ABC’s 20/20 hosted the event. There was a dinner, an auction and then a party that went on till about 1 a.m.

One charitable bidder ponied up $19,000 to have John Legend sing happy birthday to him over the phone. Who was the winning bidder? Why, John Legend himself. Actually, it was his date who raised her hand and placed the bid, but he paid. Another bidder put up $25,000 for a chance to meet the Victoria Secret Angels, including Heidi Klum, at the taping of their yearly television special. Alonzo Mourning put up $7,500 of his own cash for the opportunity to attend a private mass with the pope in Rome. When the bidding slowed, Russell Simmons encouraged patrons to help the children, just like every rapper does. “Name a rapper and I’ll name their foundation. Even Eminem, white trash that he is, has one,” said Simmons.
