Hood chats it up with Shawn C. Bean, author of The First Hollywood, a book about the early years of silent movie making in Florida’s very own movie mecca — Jacksonville?

THE 411>>

Yeah, there were more stars out during Miami’s New Year celebrations than you could shake a stick at, but the big news was that the gold laden, skimpy speedo sportin’ Michael Phelps was spotted swimming in the rooftop pool at the Gansevoort…

FILM>>

Go ahead punk, make our day and watch the latest flick from the greatest, oldest tough guy left in the effete world of movie making. Yup, Clint Eastwood is back baby and although he’s an old coot, he’s an asskickin’ one and that’s all that counts. Oh, and Hudak actually liked Gran Torino.

Real Animal is the strongest album that Alejandro Escovedo has ever made. Well, at least that’s what he tells Alan Sculley. But, who cares about that, this guys band Nuns was the opening act for the infamous last ever show by the Sex Pistols. And, that rocks!

Gerald Posner

The Author

When the South of Fifth Neighborhood Association was formed last year, it quickly became one of the most powerful in town. As president, Gerald Posner played a key role in organizing a voting block that no one doubts pushed many of the new city officials into office.

But it’s in his role as a New York Times bestselling author that Posner really has the power to make people listen. The pages of his books are filled with hard-hitting investigative journalism about some of the most iconic events in modern history.

His books cover topics ranging from Joseph Mengele, Hitler and Chinese warlords to Ross Perot, the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. and the history of Motown.

Perhaps the sign of being a good journalist is people wanting you dead. Posner’s coverage of the Middle East has gotten him noticed. In fact, he and his wife, Trisha, are banned from Saudi Arabia as a result of his 2005 book, Secrets of the Kingdom: The Inside Story of the Secret Saudi-U.S. Connection, though he wasn’t exactly liked in the Arab world before its publication. Why America Slept: the Failure to Prevent 9/11 claimed that Prince Ahmed bin Salman bin Abudulaziz Al Saud was tied to al Qaeda and knew about 9/11 ahead of time. Somehow, Posner is still breathing, but Prince Ahmed, other Saudi princes in the book and the chief of the Pakistani air force all died questionable deaths shortly after the book was published.

Posner is currently working on a novel with Babylon in the title about local politics, which is no doubt a scary proposition for some well-known local characters.
