Hood chats it up with Shawn C. Bean, author of The First Hollywood, a book about the early years of silent movie making in Florida’s very own movie mecca — Jacksonville?

THE 411>>

Yeah, there were more stars out during Miami’s New Year celebrations than you could shake a stick at, but the big news was that the gold laden, skimpy speedo sportin’ Michael Phelps was spotted swimming in the rooftop pool at the Gansevoort…

FILM>>

Go ahead punk, make our day and watch the latest flick from the greatest, oldest tough guy left in the effete world of movie making. Yup, Clint Eastwood is back baby and although he’s an old coot, he’s an asskickin’ one and that’s all that counts. Oh, and Hudak actually liked Gran Torino.

Real Animal is the strongest album that Alejandro Escovedo has ever made. Well, at least that’s what he tells Alan Sculley. But, who cares about that, this guys band Nuns was the opening act for the infamous last ever show by the Sex Pistols. And, that rocks!

Matthew B. Gorson

Legal Eagle

Matthew Gorson is president of Greenberg Traurig law firm and has contributed thousands of dollars to the campaigns of all three candidates still in the race to become president of the United States, which gives one an idea of the kind of guy he is right there.

Gorson joined Greenberg Traurig in 1973, becoming the 14th lawyer to be part of the firm; since then, he’s watched the firm grow to more than 1,700 lawyers. And he has  become one of the most in-demand real estate attorneys in South Florida.

Gorson has worked with pretty much every major developer in the region, and his work during the ’90s helped turn South Beach into the world-renowned destination it is today.

He was also the chair of Greenberg Traurig’s national real estate practice for some 15 years, during which time his leadership turned the firm into a real estate heavy hitter.

Aside from straddling the fence with his political contributions, Gorson is involved in the community at a grass roots level, where he believes he can make a difference. He led the movement to open the Downtown Miami Charter School, which he serves as chairman, and he sits on the board of such worthy institutions as the New World Symphony and the United Way of Miami-Dade County. This does leave one wondering, though: Is all this good work just trying to make up for having the Donald and his Trump Group as a key client?
