Hood chats it up with Shawn C. Bean, author of The First Hollywood, a book about the early years of silent movie making in Florida’s very own movie mecca — Jacksonville?

THE 411>>

Yeah, there were more stars out during Miami’s New Year celebrations than you could shake a stick at, but the big news was that the gold laden, skimpy speedo sportin’ Michael Phelps was spotted swimming in the rooftop pool at the Gansevoort…

FILM>>

Go ahead punk, make our day and watch the latest flick from the greatest, oldest tough guy left in the effete world of movie making. Yup, Clint Eastwood is back baby and although he’s an old coot, he’s an asskickin’ one and that’s all that counts. Oh, and Hudak actually liked Gran Torino.

Real Animal is the strongest album that Alejandro Escovedo has ever made. Well, at least that’s what he tells Alan Sculley. But, who cares about that, this guys band Nuns was the opening act for the infamous last ever show by the Sex Pistols. And, that rocks!

Charlie Cinnamon

Class Act

In a place like South Florida, where hype and image are everything, Charlie Cinnamon reigns supreme.

Cinnamon has been making his clients look good for five decades and still runs circles around the young public relations kids who only wish to have the incredible career he continues to enjoy.

Part of Cinnamon’s charm is the sincerity, respect and humility with which he carries himself. The first time you talk to the guy, you want to be his friend.

Best known for his involvement in the arts, Cinnamon created some of South Florida’s most successful and loved events, such as the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and the Miami Beach Festival of the Arts. He represents the Concert Association of Florida that Judy Drucker founded, helped get the Miami City Ballet off the ground and launched a national campaign that brought the Miami Heat to town. He even brought Elizabeth Taylor to South Florida for the Community Alliance Against AIDS’ first fundraiser, which in one night raised $2.1 million for AIDS research.

Current high-profile Cinnamon clients include Broadway Across America at the Arsht Center in Miami and the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale, the Kravis Center in Palm Beach and the Mahaffey Theatre in St. Petersburg.

He represents Barton G. Weiss and Barton G. Restaurant, Forbidden Broadway at the Arsht Center, the World Erotic Art Museum, Spiegelworld, the New World School of the Arts and the Miami International Film Festival, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.

For continuing to put the spice in the South Florida arts scene and being a real class act, Charlie Cinnamon is the PR man to call.
